From TraduRed to Tilde Academy: Vision and Commitment to Training

From a modest coffee shop meeting in San José to an established international training platform, the journey of TraduRed to Tilde Academy is a story of vision, community, and an enduring commitment to professional development in the language industry.

In early 2013, Costa Rica was beginning to explore standards like ISO 17100, laying the groundwork for elevating translation quality nationally. It was in this context that TraduRed was born, sparked by the idea of creating a collaborative space for translators and interpreters to share knowledge and grow together.

Gabriela Castro, now co-founder of both Tilde and Tilde Academy, convened a diverse group of language professionals for TraduRed’s inaugural gathering. The turnout of more than 25 attendees exceeded expectations. This momentum fostered the creation of a vibrant community of around 10 dedicated professionals who pioneered face-to-face training initiatives long before online learning gained popularity.

Over several years, TraduRed offered workshops, lectures, and working groups tackling niche topics often overlooked by academics or mainstream events. These included project quoting techniques, advanced project management, pharmaceutical and patent translation specialization, and the effective use of translation memory systems.

One landmark achievement of TraduRed’s collaborative spirit was the bilingual glossary of Costa Rican public institutions. After months of detailed analysis and discussions, this glossary was formally donated to the Costa Rican government in 2015, symbolizing a gesture of professional contribution to national development.

Today, over a decade later, this glossary remains an essential reference for linguists and professionals across fields, a testament to how initiatives born of a commitment to quality continue to evolve and deliver long-lasting impact.
