Medical Line Transfers: Tilde’s Role in Free Trade Zone Success

Transfers of medical lines are vital strategic moves that demand precision, regulatory awareness, and linguistic consistency to ensure smooth operations within free trade zones. In January 2025, a renowned medical device company officially commenced operations at the Evolution Free Zone in Grecia, Alajuela, marking the culmination of an extensive installation phase that began one year before.

From the outset, Tilde was integrated as a key language solutions partner responsible for managing multilingual content critical to the transfer process. Moving production lines across borders involves much more than relocating machinery—it entails adapting protocols and technical documentation to comply with new local regulations, linguistic norms, and operational standards.

For this project, over 200,000 words across 64 documents—ranging from Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Occupational Health and Safety (EHS) guidelines, Quality Assurance (QA) specifications, to Work Instructions (WI)—were translated from English into Spanish. Due to the volume’s magnitude, the client prioritized phased deliveries over three months to enable immediate responsiveness and terminological consistency across all documents.

Tilde deployed a structured team comprising six translators, two specialized reviewers, and two project managers, with one project manager acting as the single point of contact. This model facilitated efficient communication, ensured full traceability, and helped align translation priorities with client needs.

Maintaining certified standards, every translation underwent human review in line with ISO 17100 requirements, supported by Trados-assisted technology to develop an internally validated glossary alongside the client. Applying their style guide consistently was pivotal in preserving the terminological integrity of devices already marketed internationally.

The delivered translations did more than meet documentation requirements; they became vital training tools for plant personnel, ensuring accurate understanding and implementation of procedures. This phase was crucial to operational success and integrated Tilde’s language expertise directly into the heart of production.

Today, Tilde celebrates the consolidation of a strategic alliance with this client, reflecting our technical capabilities, regulatory expertise, and deep industry insight. Through quality, accuracy, and commitment, we contribute to enabling the global biomedical revolution to speak many languages—fluently and reliably.
